Dear Customers and Friends,

Please join us in celebrating our first year of independence. Just one short year ago we formed Precise to focus on Transaction Performance Management. During this year we have visited with many of you to better understand your needs and your plans to help us design and build the right product for our customers. We have learned a lot, and now, thanks to you, we are excited to present to you Precise version 8.5. This is our first release as an independent TPM company.

One of the major design considerations of Precise 8.5 was the requirement for a smooth migration to Precise products for Symantec-APM™ customers and for a seamless transition of their prior APM licenses to Precise customer support. We would like to welcome Symantec-APM™ customers to the Precise community and invite you to work with us to preserve the investments you already made in Transaction Performance Management.

You told us that regardless of budget cuts, you still must deliver impeccable service to the business. Precise 8.5 offers new, centralized administration and automated deployment capabilities that allow smaller, less experienced teams to effectively manage large environments to the highest transaction performance standards.

Precise 8.5 sets the standard for data center transaction performance coverage. We have extended our TPM solutions to the latest developments in storage and composite application transactions (web services). Precise 8.5 also offers a new transaction performance management solution for DB2 environments.

From working with many of you over the last year we have focused our latest release on making what you have work better. Precise 8.5 will help you flow more transactions over the same systems at a significantly reduced TCO. All of us here at Precise look forward to working closely with you this year. Precise Unveils version 8.5

8.5 Automation is all around us: kiosks at the airport, payments on mobile devices, and shopping via the internet. This translates to more machines, more transactions, and fewer human agents. In this new world, machine performance equals business performance. More transactions, crossing more application tiers, creates more complexity. Making it work is not for the faint of heart. We live in a brave new interconnected world, where the age-old Application Performance Management (APM) problem is still unsolved.

Precise 8.5 marks a turning point in the ongoing effort to manage these machines. It extends the reach of Transaction Performance Management (TPM) to more of the machines and systems in your complex datacenter. It also helps automate infrastructure management, allowing fewer human agents to support more of the transactions that are critical to your business.

Tips and Tricks

Manage Your Custom Alerts with Precise Inform

When it comes to managing home-grown alerting scripts; it can be a mess if you have too many. We want to take this opportunity to let you know how to manage Inform Alerts. If your servers are already set up with Precise you can leverage one of the least explored but extremely powerful features in the product – customized alerts.

Don't worry, the valuable logic in your home-grown scripts will stay, you just do away with the hassles of scheduling and handling them from different places and sources. With Inform/Alerts you can manage your home grown scripts more efficiently by utilizing the GUI based scheduling and emailing features in Inform/Alerts. You can also view the history of your alerts for up to last 7 days.

All you need to do is tweak the logic in your script to return alert data to Inform Alerts in a prescribed format, place the scripts at particular location in i3 directory. Then you set the thresholds and emails and schedule the custom alert script to run through Inform Alerts.

If you don't have any-home grown script you can always create a simple one to get alerted on the critical metrics of your choice - like a critical performance indicator in your application or even one on status of your batch jobs. Custom alerting possibilities are unlimited and Inform Alerts provides you all the mechanisms to make that possible in an easy manner.
